Traditional Barge Boat Trip, La Roque-Gageac

48 person traditional boat trip with commentary

featured in Boat trips

This traditional wooden barge will take you on a picturesque cruise down the river Dordogne from La Roque-Gageac to the Castelnaud bridge.

The gabare is an authentic reproduction of an 18th-century boat that was once used to transport wine, wood, fish, salt, chestnuts and truffles along the river. You can learn about the history and traditions of the area as you take this hour long cruise. An audioguide is available in several different languages, including both French and English.

Visitor comments

  • "La Roque Gageac is stunning and this lazy boat trip is so relaxing and interesting. These traditional Dordogne boats take you down a 6k stretch with stunning views to Castelnaud and back. Loads of great photo ops. The guide was really funny and really involved the trippers onboard with Q&A's as well as well observed jokes...but in French but there is an onboard audio guide you can hire. Well worth an hour of your time while visiting La Roque." - Trip Advisor
  • "Well worth the €8 for this trip. Lovely gentle boat trip. Very informative about that section of the Dordogne. There was a leaflet in English as the tour was narrated in French but the guide took the time at every stage to explain everything to us in English." - Trip Advisor
  • "This turned out to be one of those things which was much better than we though it would be. For 10Euro each you get almost an hour on the river with great views of buildings and attraction along the riverbank. Included in the price is an audio tour for non-French speakers. If you speak French you will have the benefit of the French tour guide who was enormously animated and was fun to watch and listen to, even if you can't understand anything. This was fun and interesting and I wish we'd done this sooner when we have been in the area previously." - Trip Advisor
